Description
The hemp scrunchie is made out of 100% non-dyed hemp fabric made in Romania. As a material, hemp is very environmentally friendly. Hemp fabric is a breathable material due to the porous structure of hemp fiber. The material stays cool in hot weather and warms up cool. It is naturally UV resistant and absorbent, and is also known for its anti-bacterial, anti-mould and insulative qualities. The hemp scrunchie is made of leftover hemp material.
Hemp needs little help to thrive; spreading so quickly, it makes a great companion crop, helps clean the air and is grown with less water and without the need for harmful chemicals. For hemp production, harsh chemical herbicides aren’t necessary. Hemp also naturally reduces pests, so no pesticides are needed. It returns 60-70% of the nutrients it takes from the soil. The plant requires very little water. When you add processing into the equation, cotton uses around four times as much water as hemp. It can produce over double the fibre yield per hectare than cotton.
Hemp grows super quickly, resulting in more yields per acre. The average tree takes about 10 years to grow to maturity, while hemp can take as little as 3 months to be ready to harvest. While it grows, it replenishes the soil with nitrogen and other nutrients, while removing toxic chemicals at the same time. (Fun fact: Hemp was intentionally grown at the radioactive Chernobyl site to naturally remove toxins and pollutants from the Ukrainian soil and groundwater). Nothing is wasted in the hemp production process. Seeds are used to make oil and food supplements, while the stalks are used for fiber. Industrial hemp plants absorb more carbon dioxide than trees.
