Description
The Bijou trousers designed by a Finnish brand which emphasizes high quality materials, functionality, long lasting products with fair European production. The brand was founded by textile designer Pauliina Leisti in 2013. Pauliina aims to create garments that last time – both by timeless design and by long lasting materials. The design philosophy grows from modern Scandinavian style, clean lines and comfort. Distinctive prints and patterns are also important part of the design. Pauliina started with patterned knit accessories in 2013.
Fabrics and textiles have been really important to her since childhood. She decided to study textile design and it became clear to her at an early stage that she wanted to create her own business.
Ethics mean a lot to Pauliina, she thinks that they should be the basic principle in all activities. She would not even imagine doing something where someone else would suffer because of it.
For Pauliina, the only way to design and make clothes is to treat everyone in the production chain well. Manufacturers are from Europe, which makes it easier to rely on working conditions. The Bijou trousers are made in Estonia. Of course, it also means a lot to make products as close as possible. She describes her clothing as good quality, but the quality of a garment is complex. The price alone does not tell you directly about the quality. However, for Pauliina, quality means not only material and the quality of work, but also ethics.
In addition to these factors, the price of clothing is also influenced by the volume of production. Cheap fast fashion chains have ruined the value of garments. Making a garment requires a lot of different work stages, starting with the production of the material. If you are well aware of this process, you will no longer be surprised by the high price of the garment, but vice versa. When the price is too low, it feels bad when you know that not everyone in the production chain is reasonably compensated and materials are likely to be selected solely on the basis of price.
Pauliina hopes people would pay more attention to materials: both the raw material of the garment and the feel of the material. High quality material is easy to recognise. All fibers come in both good and bad quality. The name of the textile fiber alone does not fully describe the quality of the material. Of course, one must also remember that no material can withstand endless, heavy use. The use, washing and maintenance of the garment plays a major role in the durability of the garment.
Designer Pauliina wants to design clothes for a need. She always wonders how to make the clothes as comfortable as possible for everyday use. You cannot always please everyone, but she strives to make clothes that fit as many body types as possible. Pauliina wants materials to be as durable and comfortable as possible.
