All Pitu Woodellery products have been designed to emphasise out the raw beauty of natural materials with their simple designs. The designer Pitja uses local materials and very traditional methods of making to produce her wooden jewellery. Some pieces are turned by hand and some are carved with a knife. Each piece of wood has its own unique properties, which is why knowing the materials and handcrafting methods is so important.
Woodcarving is one the traditional finnish handcraft skills that has unfortunately become rare. Pitu Woodellery products are made using traditional making methods and tools, which is why the jewellery cannot be produced in big batches. Making the jewellery from drying the wood, to turning it or carving it and oiling it, is time consuming. At the very least, the process takes a few days. Pitja is hoping to take you on a journey to how much thought has gone into each piece of jewellery. You can do your part in ensuring the survival traditional handcrafts and by purchasing wooden jewellery.
