The Stigar necklace in sterling silver is a quote from Selma Lagerlöf. The Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf (1858-1940) became the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. As a child she ardently read and sought education in spite of financial insecurity and health problems. Higher education seemed unlikely due to its cost, but Lagerlöf took a loan to fund herself. This passion for learning resulted in novels, short stories, and plays that explored modern life – and women’s position in it – often through fantastical stories. Her novel Gösta Berling’s Saga remains a best-loved classic of Swedish literature to date. The innovative writing was formally recognised in 1909, when Lagerlöf was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Literature – the first woman and the first Swede to receive it.
